Alia Canberra Restaurant wedding

Sarah and Victor / Surprise wedding at Alia Restaurant

City-Editorial-wedding-Canberra

It was 2005, and Sarah and Victor met as student and teacher of a dance school in Canberra (I’m feeling Dirty Dancing vibes). Fast forward 20ish years and these two have built a life together, a cosy home, and had 3 beautiful children. They were practically married.

Victor was turning 40 and they were going to throw a big party at Alia - and after realising that they were going to have all of their close friends and family travelling to see them for the birthday, Sarah had the lightbulb moment - why not make it a wedding? And of course, how fun would it be to make it a surprise wedding?

Guests found out as they came through the doors of Alia- which was impeccably styled for the occasion by Events by Bridget and Joanne Flowers of Manuka. Sarah wore a sleek ‘Bec and Bridge’ dress. Sarah Marie Celebrancy officiated the joyful ceremony.

We had lots of fun exploring the city area for their bridal portrait session, hanging out around Civic and shooting around the iconic heritage listed Sydney and Melbourne buildings.

This is how I saw the day unfold …..

Some more in depth info about Alia restaurant as a wedding venue and the surrounding Canberra cityscape (with a little help from our friend ChatGPT)

Alia / restaurant wedding venue

Alia is a modern Mediterranean restaurant, celebrated for its innovative approach to traditional dishes. The menu is a vibrant fusion of fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and Mediterranean flavors. Step inside Alia, and you'll be welcomed by an interior that exudes understated sophistication. The decor is a harmonious mix of minimalist lines, textured finishes, and warm accents.

Ideal for small weddings, Allia this ceremony and reception venue offers a seamless blend of modern elegance and comfort, making it perfect for those who want a stylish yet intimate celebration.

Alia is situated near the historic Melbourne and Sydney Buildings, two of Canberra’s most iconic landmarks. Built in the 1920s, these structures are prime examples of Interwar Georgian Revival architecture, with their symmetrical facades, arched colonnades, and terracotta-tiled roofs. The blend of history and modernity in this part of the city offers a unique backdrop to bridal portrait sessions.
