New Acton Microwedding / Parlour Room and High Jinks

Janet & Howard’s New Acton Microwedding at Parlour Room and High Jinks

The Story

Janet and Howard met in Melbourne a few years ago and had a whirlwind romance- a sweet second adolecence in a way. After living it large in Melbourne for 2 years, they decided it was time to find a place to settle down close to family and their adult children- so they decided to set up in stylish New Acton.

When they started planning the wedding, they wanted to exchange vows in in Nishi / New Acton area which had become home. They decided to have a small wedding with close friends and family only. Parlour Room was an obvious choice for the microwedding ceremony- reflecting their love of art and culture, and providing the intimate venue they wanted for their small wedding. For their reception they wanted something artistic, stylish, and unconventional. Conveniently, ‘High Jinks’ bar was locate just downstairs from Parlour Room. How perfect.

The Venue

Parlour Room

Parlour Wine Room, located in the heart of Canberra's iconic New Acton precinct, is one of my favourite wedding venues for intimate weddings. Housed in the historic 1927 Hotel Acton, Parlour exudes old-world charm with it’s Art Deco touches, plush velvet couches, incredible artwork, and the iconic green feature wall. That green wall makes for a great backdrop for exchanging vows, first dances, speeches, and one of my fave areas for portraits.

Ceremonies at Parlour Wine Room can be held either within the stylish confines of the Parlour Room restaurant or in the adjacent John Avery Gardens, providing couples with a choice between an indoor or outdoor setting that suits their vision.

High Jinks

High Jinks is a 1920s speakeasy-style bar located in the basement of a heritage building, directly beneath Parlour Wine Room. It’s fun and cozy, unconventional but elegant - an ideal spot for Janet and Howard’s microwedding soiree.
