Red She Said / Beauty Editorial inspired by Marie Antoinette, flowers, and Nocturnal Animals
Some time last year I wanted to have a play with shooting some moody portraits with my burgundy seamless paper backdrop. I loved the striking combination of red hair against deep burgundy from scenes in 'the film ‘Nocturnal Animals’ , so I really wanted to recreated that in a shoot with a red haired model. I had also been really inspired by a beauty editorial by photographer Fabio Piemonte featuring a model with an edgy modern Botticelli type look posing with foliage.
I sourced a few leftover foliage / florals from Wiluna Studios before the shoot and Amy, Craig and I just had a play with different looks on the day. Fun times!

Styled Shoot: Laurel & Lace / Mrs Fray / Jenny Wu
At the end of last year, Lauren from Laurel and Lace dreamt up a concept of a bridal styled shoot that was all about creamy florals with a romantic colour palette, movement of sheer fabrics, old world meets modern bohemian. We teamed up with some of Canberra’s incredible wedding vendors (full credits and wardrobe details at the bottom of the post) and shot this in the Mrs Fray beautiful studio space the day before Christmas Eve.
The ladies at Mrs Fray have a way with words, so I’ll treat you with their description of this shoot:
“A soft playful take to inspire your wedding day mornings.
Floaty tulle, as light as air. Lustrous chocolate velours, sensuous silk slips and lounge about robes. An abundance of English rose garden blooms inspired by works of the Dutch Golden Age. Old fashioned romance.”

Blossom : A Spring Editorial
Every Spring, Canberra explodes with blossoming trees for roughly 2-3 weeks. Tracy and I decided to make the most of it this Spring so we foraged some pretty pink blossoms (as well as using some gorgeous cotton flowers she picked up from one of Wiluna Studio’s dried flower pop-ups) to use in a dreamy pink toned portrait shoot.
Lara- A Summer Beauty Editorial
This editorial was shot during a scorching summer’s day in January at my home in Canberra. We wanted to shoot some very pared back, minimalist looks that were all about light and shadows on perfect glowy skin, set off with some chic pieces by local Aussie designers.
I love shooting editorial portraits with direct light on the skin, so when we have a bright sunny day and a model with incredible skin, I’m a happy girl.

Homecoming - an editorial
In the 6 months before they fenced off and knocked down the Bega Flats in Canberra, I had noticed the building becoming gradually quieter as the tenants started vacating. It was on my regular jogging route, and for the first time I noticed what a cool building it was. I ended up doing an editorial shoot there with Gem (images from the shoot in this blog post)
Bega was part of the 'ABC' flats - Allawah, Bega, Currong, and they were all in the process of being cleared to make way for new buildings. This reminded me of Alphabet City in New York, as it was protrayed in 'Rent'- this suddenly made the demolition incredibly evocative and nostalgic. When I heard from Laura (from Lux & Us) that she spent the first year of her life there I knew that I had to take her portraits in that location.
Bonbon - An Editorial
I'm obsessed with pink walls, and every time I travel I gravitate towards them as predictably as a dog gravitates towards the nearest tree. So I've been eye-ing this dilapidated vacant apartment block with pink walls near my place in Braddon and dreaming of portraits I could shoot with it.
I couldn't think of anyone who would suit this shoot more than the talented Gem Chua (represented by Devojka Models). She fit the urban lolita vibe to a tee, and rocked a flower in her mouth like no one else could (except maybe Lana Del Rey), and we shot this almost completely impromptu in 45mins.
