Nikki & Mariah / Parlour Room Wedding

Nikki & Mariah / Colourful Parlour Room Canberra Wedding

Nikki and Mariah’s heartfelt wedding day in New Acton was one of my favourites.

In true Nikki and Mariah fashion, we threw tradition out the window and structured the day in a way that worked for them. They got ready together, and we started with some portraits at Ovolo Nishi with their favourite girl- their adopted greyhound named Polly (who donned a floral neckpiece from Spiral Botanicals for the occasion.). Any time spent with a fur baby on a wedding day is a huge treat for me so I had a ball!

We then went into family photos, and followed by exploring Nishi New Acton for some arty, creative portraits with the Brides. How epic are their crimson, blush, tangerine toned bouquets from Spiral Botanicals?

Their entire wedding was perfectly them. Stylish, non-traditional, heartfelt, and fun. Even the little drizzle that moved the wedding indoors (the interior of the Parlour Dining Room is even more gorgeous than the outdoor location in my opinion) gave the day an element of spontaneity and surprise. Their bestie from Melbourne - Matt Childs - was the (hilarious) celebrant, and that was very special for them.

Mariah and Nikki were interviewed for an upcoming article about their wedding in Hello May. I thought I would share a few words from their interview.

Favourite moment / memory from the day?

"We got ready together in the morning, just the two of us. This was special as we were able to take time to reflect and share the build up, as well as comfort each other as the nerves set in.
The ceremony was our favourite moment, sharing our vows and seeing our family and friends faces light up! As a gay couple this was something I never imagined possible when I was young.
The speech by our dear friends Steph and Nathe had us laughing and tearing up, it captured our personalities and our story."

What does marriage mean to you?

"Marriage allows us the opportunity to celebrate our love openly with our nearest and dearests. It represents being a team and walking alongside each other, supporting and encouraging one another. Holding each other’s hand when we need, but also treading our own path. We absolutely adore one another (duh!). We are very encouraging and supportive of one another to be our complete, untamed, true selves, i.e Niks love for trashy tv and my middle aged dad jokes/hobbies. We both value quality time together with our furr babies. We can chat endlessly about anything and everything "

Kind words:

Any stand out vendors from your wedding? Who did you connect with?

"Our amazing photographer Jenny Wu. She is the ultimate professional and incredibly talented. She made sure we felt really comfortable to be ourselves in those tender and intimate moments. She was patient with us (and our families) and provided gentle direction that was seamless."
