Gold Creek Station Wedding

Nina and Gareth's Gold Creek Station wedding really showcased their creativity and love of all things bespoke. A standout feature of their wedding was the array of homegrown flowers they used for the reception and bouquet. Not often you see a reception styled with wedding flowers from the couple’s garden!

Apricot Ink / Musician Collab

A few weeks ago I photographed the band Apricot Ink as part of a creative collaboration between Larissa from Wiluna Studio, Apricot Ink, furniture Designer Elliot Bastianon (of Furnished Forever), The Lab, and Video Stevie. Larissa came up with the fun concept and moodboard, a combination of photography, video, and sound.

1920s Inspired Pialligo Estate Wedding

I was super excited when Dan and Trent told me that they were going to have a vintage 1920s jazz age - inspired wedding and they wanted me to be part of it.

We started out with portraits in New Acton with Dan and Trent, plus their ‘I do crew’. We explored Ovolo Nishi, had drinks at Parlour Dining, and had fun taking portraits that looked like they belonged on a Vanity Fair cover.

The entire day was immaculately styled, with two very well dapper grooms, their well dressed guests, and their labrador Loki, gathering in the Olive Grove at Pialligo estate to celebrate the pair followed by a reception at Pialligo Fields

Claire and Tom / Poachers Pantry Wedding Canberra

Claire and Tom’s Summer wedding at Poachers Pantry pwas the last wedding before I went on maternity leave, and I couldn’t think of a better way to wrap up my wedding season.

The day was full of laughs and bursting with amazing energy as these two tied the knot surrounded by all of their favourite people (not to be taken for granted after two years of COVID related travel restrictions!). I photographed Claire’s sister Grace’s wedding a couple of years ago and seeing the Terry family again was so nice. The gorgeous wedding party and incredible venue styling (by Two Wild Hearts Co. and The Prop Smith) were such a treat to photograph - I had to keep wiping the drool off my chin.

Alice and David // St John's Anglican Church and Muse Bookstore Wedding

Alice and David’s wedding day was really another really special one. There were some date changes and nail biting accompanying the logistics of event (in true 2020 fashion), but when it came together it was just perfect.

They chose one of my favourite venues for a wedding reception- Muse bookstore in Kingston. So intimate and full of character, the space suited them to a tee.

Intimate micro wedding at HQ Thirty Four Canberra / Mickey and Aaron

Mickey and Aaron had their wedding date fall in the tricky Canberra lockdown period at the end of September 2021. Instead of postponing like many couples did during this time, they decide to redesign their day and have an intimate wedding of 10 guests - a ‘microwedding’.

HQ Thirty Four was the perfect space for the occasion, and what a treat it was to spend some time there capturing the love between the couple and their families.

How I shoot DSLR self portraits with phone tethered trigger / Canon Camera Connect

Like many photographers in recent times, I’ve found myself suddenly without a model to photograph during periods of lockdown; and like many photographers who wanted to continue creating images, I’ve gone down the path of taking self portraits.

I wanted to share the way that I shoot self portraits with my DSLR because I know it took me awhile to figure it out when I was looking for a solution that was compatible with studio flash, and not frustratingly hit and miss with focus and composition. Keep in mind that this is specific to Canon DSLR users.

How to correct red and green colour casts in Lightroom / HSL and Camera Calibration

I think most portrait photographers would agree with me when I say that the dealing with colour casts coming off a red brick wall and green grass are are a classic pain in the butt. To be honest, most of the time when I shoot I like to position my subjects away from potential colour correction headaches - but sometimes the brick wall is irresistible and a shooting in a forest is always so worth it.

When editing a portrait session in Lightroom, I used to rely on using adjustment brushes to alter saturation, tint, temperature, and add a neutralising colour to specific areas, but this is time consuming and only feasible for a small number of hero shots. More recently I’ve started learning and experimenting with colour correction techniques in the HSL and Camera Calibration - with edits that can be synced across multiple photos.

Red She Said / Beauty Editorial inspired by Marie Antoinette, flowers, and Nocturnal Animals

Some time last year I wanted to have a play with shooting some moody portraits with my burgundy seamless paper backdrop. I loved the striking combination of red hair against deep burgundy from scenes in 'the film ‘Nocturnal Animals’ , so I really wanted to recreated that in a shoot with a red haired model. I had also been really inspired by a beauty editorial by photographer Fabio Piemonte featuring a model with an edgy modern Botticelli type look posing with foliage.

I sourced a few leftover foliage / florals from Wiluna Studios before the shoot and Amy, Craig and I just had a play with different looks on the day. Fun times!
